Quite a few of my friends had recommended the Skylit – Citrus Hotel, located on Cunningham Road. It didn’t happen until late in Oct ’15, when a friend made plans to catch up here for a tasting and drinks. From the outer ring road, it’s a long, long commute. And there is a Citrus Hotel nearby for us, where we often have our office lunches. As I sat in the cab heading there on a Friday night, I hoped the time and the traffic would leave me enough time to actually enjoy the place. Skylit is on the top floor of the hotel obviously, the place had pretty gazebos lined up, and beautiful lights, very pleasant ambiance, light music. It wasn’t crowded, very comfortable. Their buffet menu is quite expansive, about 8 vegetarian and 8 non veg starters, the largest I’ve seen in the city.
We started our meal with some cosmos, bread and cheese. The tandoori mushrooms were hot and spicy, while the nachos were crisp and fresh. The jalapeno cheese potatoes and corn palak tikki were quite good as well. The veg starters were interlaced with non veg options too, the squid fry was delicious – not fried too much, not chewy or rubbery, just the right bit spicy. My friend loves sea food, and the chef kindly got us butter garlic squids, which were amazing as well. The seekh kababs were good too, though I did miss prawns on the menu. And with a large starter spread, typically mains are not sufficient. It wasn’t the case here. Their large kitchen had Asian and European mains lined up, which I tried tasting but didn’t have much space for!
Before we reached the desserts we took a food pause, trying out some of the cocktails. Between the sheets had cognac, rum and Cointreau – a sharp and potent drink, while I ordered the Manhattan for Caroline which had whiskey, vermouth and angostra bitter – also very well made and sublime with an interesting cocktail of flavors. But the favorite of the night was probably the Extravaganza which was a mixologist’s creation with vodka, tequila and spiced up well. The desserts had quite a few options, I liked the dal halwa and dates pudding.
Skylit – Citrus Hotel is an excellent place, offering good service, and a value for money; the dinner buffet is priced at 750 ++, totally worth the spread.
