Food startups are aplenty in Bangalore, but I am always on the lookout for sustainable and concept companies. I think the market need in the city is pretty clear. We have exotic world cuisine serving restaurants available, and as a city we indulge in more than a fair share of dining experiences. But when at home, or at work, we need food that has variety, is easily available, good quality and taste, and affordable. Baba Fattoosh is one such start up, that is slowly, but steadily working its way to becoming one of those go-to websites in Bangalore for simple, regular yet tasty food.
In conversation with the Founder of Baba Fattoosh, Devesh Varshney, I asked him a few questions that define their company and vision, and this is what he had to say:
SKG: Who are the people behind Baba Fattoosh?
Devesh: The people are Devesh Varshney, Founder (Chartered Accountant, Ex-Goldman Sachs Investment Banking New York) & Harshvardhan Bansal (Electronics Engineer, Ex-Stemcor, London) & SK Zafar (Head Chef, Marriott Hotels).
SKG: Is there a specific cuisine you are focusing on?
Devesh: Yes, we are focussing mainly on North Indian food that’s prepared in Delhi-style. Delhi style, mainly because of the way it is prepared. This style of preparation is liked by majority of North Indians. We’re also serving Indo-Chinese cuisine without MSG.
SKG: Currently your operating area is around Marathalli and Whitefield. What are your expansion plans in terms of delivery?
Devesh: We are planning to head to HSR / Sarjapur / Bellandur by Jan and then to Domlur / Indiranagar & Koramangala by Feb
SKG: What kind of audience are you intending this initiative for?
Devesh: We are targeting young working professionals who are living away from home and are looking for eating options that are sustainable. Something that they can eat on an everyday basis and most importantly without getting bored – and hence, we got the daily changing menu!
Baba Fattoosh with it’s changing menu, and great pricing for value meals, is soon going to be in several areas of Bangalore. What I liked about their food is the non greasy and light rendition of various dishes that they have. And having their own kitchen gives them the lee way to work the food in various ways. Because yes, ultimately it only about the food. Additionally they have started a subscription plan which makes their food even more economical. And yes, their on time delivery and super neat packaging, every time, didn’t hurt as well.
