Now you don’t have to scroll on Amazon Prime for an hour to find something good to watch. Romantic TV Series recos coming up!
While Amazon Prime, Netflix and everything else has a ton of romance in their genre list, it’s often hard to find something to watch among the scores of recommendations. And if you’ve got a slightly varied taste, or your account is shared – you’ve got a bigger problem. The recommendations get mixed up and a couple of minutes into something that you found after an hour, you realize is just not what you wanted to watch. And sometimes, the endless scrolling takes up so much time, you give up before even watching something. Maybe trailers were better you thought. Well, I give you 3 choices, instead of a black hole of options, so scroll down to read my recommendations for Comedy and Romantic TV Series to watch this Jan and Feb 2025!
Call Me Bae (2024)
A comedy with drama and style, that’s Call Me Bae, about a girl called Bae who does impulsive things in life leading to her losing her privileged lifestyle and embarking on a journey to find herself, true friends and love. Lot of people have described this as the Indian version of Emily in Paris. There are similarities in their field of work, boy triangles and quadrangles, and some faux pax, but adapted well to the Indian context with an emphasis on Gen Zs. Also, throw in a bit of Caroline from Two Broke Girls, and that’s Bae. Good for a casual one time watch, Call Me Bae keeps it super light. One thing you WILL get out of this series is almost a whole new lingo.
Modern Love Mumbai (2022)
If you don’t want to watch a series, Modern Love Mumbai explores deeper love stories. Each of the stories in the anthology is unique and has a very distinct narration (directed by different people).
Starting with a Kashmiri girl’s discovery of self-worth, to a gay man’s journey and a love story across ages. I loved the last 2 episodes. One had Ritwik Bhowmik and Masaba in a cute story of a girl trying to find the right person and then finding him in a rather plain circumstance. Lastly Chitrangada and Arshad Warsi in their marriage of several years, with incomplete dreams where life got in the way. Real, sometimes slow, but tugs at the heart strings <3
Half Love Half Arranged (2024)
Based on a book, this shows the chaotic life of a woman as she enters the “marriage age”. Half Love Half Arranged narrates the story of a doctor who despite having a great career and family, friends – feels the need to find the right partner. Meeting different prospects, finding the spark, hits and misses – that’s the story of Half Love Half Arranged. Riya as a character sounds like Siddhi (from Four More Shots Please) got a medical degree and a slightly serious wardrobe. The enticing and intriguing Jogi keeps you hooked on this simple story, while her family has some insanely annoying characters (read: younger sibling). This series has some other cute guys as well, another easy watch. There are 2 seasons of this, so perfect for a short binge fest!
Bonus Pick – Bandish Bandits (2020, 2024)
Though I was disappointed with the second season and its incessant confusing, wandering plots, season 1 of Bandish Bandits is one of the best I have seen in the last few years. The characters were well drawn out, and perfectly portrayed by the leads, and supported well by the rest of the cast, which I think is brilliantly matched. The main characters are a young man called Radhe, a classical music prodigee, and Tamanna, a pop star who is struggling to make music come together. The story shows an unlikely but electric collaboration between the two in music and love. The music by Shankar Ehsan Loy is just magical, perfectly matched with the backdrop of Bikaner and Jodhpur.
