Named after a beautiful vacation island in Italy, Capri is a brand new Mediterranean restro bar in town. The location is perfect, in the heart of St.Marks Road, and the décor is warm and inviting. Fresh colors, a nice alfresco area, playful accents on the fabrics drawing out a delightful contrast – quite a nice first impression. We initially sat by the bar, where it was nice and cool – and ordered a round of Geist beers from the tap.
The menu at Capri is predominantly Mediterranean, but also features some Asian and Indian food in separate sections. We started with the recommended Mezze Platter and Mushroom Risotto Galette. The mezze here was one of the elaborate platters I’ve seen – assemblage of three herb tabbouleh, classic hummus, roasted beet labneh, baba ganoush and more. This was served with an assortment of breads – lavash, pita chips, soft pita and grissini. Absolutely loved it! Mushroom Risotto Galette was quite a different preparation. Mushroom risotto balled up into crusty cakes and served on a bed of risotto with garlic and chive cream. We loved this one!
Next up were Shish Touk, Laham Moorish Kebabs and Harissa Marinated Prawns. Chef Aman recommended these, and we were not disappointed. The Moorish kebabs were my favorite. Succulent lamb marinated in raw papaya paste, and then chargrilled with Moroccan spices – tender and rich! The Shish Touk was Turkish chicken skewers served with Za’atar flat bread – again brilliant on flavors. The prawns with harissa mayo were quite a hit too. Each of the dishes were carefully paired with breads and sauces – to keep the taste distinct, and we loved the effect of it.
The pizza menu is quite comprehensive, but we were far too full to actually be able to try much here. The Artichoke and Ricotta pizza was our pick. Thin crust, cheesy and interesting balance of flavors. Polished off in no time. The floating dim sums were quite interesting as well. There isn’t much dessert options on the menu, so we got the brownies – which was on absolutely point. But for sweet tooth and sugar cravers, this definitely needs more options.
The Last Word
Loved the vibe of the place, beautiful and relaxed. The food is very good, everything we ordered was delicious and worth going back for. The Mushroom Risotto Galette, pizzas, Shish Touk, Mezze Platter – these would definitely be my recommendations. Competitive pricing and good service are the plus points too!
