Last weekend, we were invited for a experiential at a luxury resort – The Tamara Coorg. They were launching a flavor fest, and the menu was curated by Chef Abhijit Saha and his team. The weather forecast was rainy, and it had been while that I had visited Coorg in the rains. Excited and eager, we booked off our Ola Outstation cab for the next 3 days, and packed for a weekend away from the city. The drive to Coorg was quite smooth on a Friday morning. The resort is in the Virajpet side of Coorg, and we entered into the lush greenery of the region, spotting a couple of tuskers en route.
The Tamara has a vast area of long winding coffee, cardamom and pepper plantations, beautiful streams and waterfalls – all within the estate. The Tamara Coorg that spans 180.02 acres, and has been thoughtfully designed considering the topography, dense plantations and the delicate eco system. The on-ground footprint is kept at a minimal, using timber bridge structures and shingles roof. The cottages are delightfully modern and spacious, and offer great views being elevated above the greenery.
We stayed at the Luxury Cottage that accommodated an elevated sleeping space, a living area in the lower level and a private sundeck in the balcony with view. The Superior Luxury Cottages are similar but fitted with iPads and Apple TV. They are perched on a cliff providing a sweeping and majestic view of the surrounding. Finally, the Suite Cottage expresses the joy of living large. Separate bed room and living area, jacuzzi and a large sun deck – this is what dream holidays are made of!
The resort has a restaurant called The Falls. That is built on a bridge with stilts above valley and an actual stream, elevated to about 50 feet. Lush green view and waterfall all around, a glass floor in the center that showed how far up we were, and the sound of gushing water all around was so soothing. They do setup alfresco dinners weather permitting. There is also a lounge bar adjacent to the restaurant called The Deck. It has a nice snug décor – perfect for a leisurely evening, or watching that soccer match.
During our stay, we had a wonderful experience with Chef Abhijit Saha and his team. There was a plantation walk during which we saw a lot of flora and fauna. And even foraged a few ingredients that was later used by Chef for a demonstration. The master class saw some very interesting dishes. There was Grilled Shrimp and Orange Salad with passion fruit and honey dressing, Coffee infused Grilled Chicken Skewers and Jackfruit Kabab with Wild Finger Lime Relish. There was also a local home chef who came in and showed the preparation of Pandi Curry and Akki Roti.
The Last Word
In summary, The Tamara is a beautiful property, totally romantic, lush green and secluded. Just waking up to the chirping birds, gorgeous skies and verdant greens made the perfect start to my day. And breakfast in bed was just cherry on top! This is perfect place for a weekend getaway, or just a calm retreat. Yoga, spa, tennis, temperature controlled pool – it’s all the luxury you could want, in the midst of the rustic woods. For more details on The Tamara, log on to https://www.thetamara.com/
