This is officially a super late post featuring Plantation Trails by Tata Coffee. But for those of you who know what I have been up to in the last few months, also know why this is late. So I will just get on with it. The pre-curser to this article is here where I have written about our visit to Taj Madikeri for a coffee inspired luncheon. This was followed by a session from Sushant Dash – Regional President – India at Tata Global Beverages. Tata Coffee offers the most premium form of instant coffee. Resembling the roast and ground coffee, this is consumed all around the world. Tata Coffee Grand is a blend of freeze dried and agglomerated form – and also the first of its kind in the economic segment.
The coffee is produced in Tata’s own plantations, hence that’s where we headed next. Plantation Trails in Coorg by Tata Coffee Limited has several heritage bungalows and cottages, across the various estates in the Coorg plantation. It was late in the night, so we dispersed to our respective bungalows – I was at the Woshully Bungalow – the oldest bungalow owned by Plantation Trails. It was a beautiful, had the old school charm, while balancing heritage and luxury very well. We had an in-house chef who made nothing short of a King’s feast for dinner – serving Kodava delicacies that were just scrumptious and delightful! We were completely sated as we retired for the night.
There were several rooms in the Woshully Bungalow. I was staying at one of the executive rooms – which was basic, had a sit out which overlooked the plantation. Minimalistic comfort is an apt phrase I read on their website, though the meals were ultra-luxurious! The long journey and day’s activities made sure I fell asleep soon enough. While there is wi-fi at the place, the rooms don’t always get the coverage. The next morning was beautiful – loved the lush greenery and serenity around. Our breakfast was again a feast in the near-royal dining room.
Eventually well-stuffed, we made our way to the gorgeous Cottabetta Bungalow. The view from this property bungalow is definitely one of a kind. It has 5 different verandah rooms and heritage rooms to choose from, that are really nice and plush.
After assembling here, we then made our way on a guided jeep tour through the vast estate, touching upon the various kinds of coffee plants and their processing units. It was a fun way of discovering the journey of the coffee beans as we enjoyed the warm sun and the tranquil greens of the plantations. Then we headed back to Cottabetta, and after some refreshments started on our trip back to Bangalore.
The Last Word
In Summary, Plantation Trails is a wonderful place to unwind, but also the perspective into Tata Coffee was a highlight of this trip. The plantations and infrastructure that Tata has, coupled with their expertise in Coffee – bringing Tata Coffee Grand into the market gives discerning coffee drinkers a premium offering at a competitive price point. Check out their Filter Coffee variant available in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
