A few weeks back, I was contacted by the Purple Basil team to try out a sample dish from their offering, and provide feedback and inputs on the food. I hadn’t heard of this start up before, but when I did check them out, it looked rather interesting. A tagline of ‘Really healthy food that tastes like fast food!’ was bound to interest someone like me, who constantly cheats on eating greens and vegetables and salads. My review is broken down into 3 sections. Firstly, a bit about the brand from their website and conversations with the Collaboration Evangelist in PurpleBasil.in – Bharat RC. Then my take on the concept of the menu, and lastly the food itself.
About PurpleBasil.In
One of the key messages of PurpleBasil.in that I identified with was – Healthy lifestyle and food doesn’t necessarily mean a bland one. Healthy ingredients, minimal use of oil, no preservatives are mantras the brand uses to ensure healthy food. And that leads to another fundamental basis of their approach – to get healthy eating as a long term approach – because obviously, a one off healthy meal is not really beneficial in the long run. And how is this done? Well, there’s a prepaid subscription as well as an order in based on daily menus. The focus is of course healthy food, but also present an enticing menu that is tasty and interesting to eat, with a nice variety of options to keep the consumer engaged.
Menu Concept and My Take
Like I mentioned, there’s a Daily Menu – a different set of dishes and options from Sunday through Friday. The menus look delicious, there’s salads yes, but there’s also burritos, burgers, rolls and noodles. Enough options for folks to try, and have something for every palate by keeping the food interesting with all these variations. Each of the mains are accompanied by a side dish – usually salads and a fruit drink.
I chose the Chicken Burger from Friday’s menu – it looked so delicious! Though my location was outside the delivery area, the order reached me promptly. The meal was neatly arranged, sealed with double sided tapes, and served in eco friendly containers. And a thoughtful note accompanied it, I love handwritten notes! The burger was big, with fillings of soft and delicious pulled chicken, barbeque sauce, and finely sliced salad. The brown bread was soft, but the whole bottom bread was totally soggy by the time it was delivered to my place. The variety was great, and the cooler in the kulhar was a nice touch. The quantity is just right for one person, as is the pricing.
The menus on other days cover several cuisines, and have curious combinations. I would strongly recommend PurpleBasil.in if you are in the delivery areas, which you can check here: http://purplebasil.in/delivery-areas/ I hope they expand to my side of town soon! #happyhealthyhogging
Scope of improvement: Their website could probably be made faster and better navigable. Also more details on the dishes could be helpful for individuals looking to order.
