Shiro is one of the oldest restaurants in UB City. And despite being around for several years, their quality and innovation with their events, menus and dishes has been top notch. I can confidently say that this is a restaurant that keeps getting better. Hence whether its farewell dinners, or family gatherings, we have always come back to Shiro time and again. So last week when we were invited for a tasting of their ongoing festival – the Steaming Sensation, this isn’t something I could resist! I also have a perennial craving for dim sums, and this festival seemed to be tailor made for me. The Chef team at Shiro have put together an astounding menu of over 40 unique steamed gourmet dim sums and other steamed delicacies – using exotic meats and ingredients that promise to surprise. They weren’t wrong.

Some of the best from that meal are listed here. Our first dumpling of the meal was an exotic mushroom and cream cheese dumpling topped celery and coriander. The broth of truffle oil scattered with baby mushrooms was aromatic and delicious, while the dumplings were soft pink in color, and had sublime and delicate flavors. The Chicken Wonton with Sichuan Chilli Oil garnished with spring onion and sesame seeds was spicy, the dish looked lovely, and the thin encasement of this dim sum almost melted in my mouth.

Hot Basil Chicken Dumplings was another favorite, this had spicy basil chicken flavored with oyster sauce – quite the zest! The Pork Belly Gua Bao – a must try if you’re a pork lover – Taiwanese styled open bao with Korean barbeque flavored pork belly – juicy, saucy! The menu features an entire sea food section of dim sums – we tried a few, the Prawn and Chives Dumpling made quite an impression. Pan fried wonton skin dumpling with prawns marinated in chives, red chilies and ginger – lip smacking good!
