Kappa Chakka Kandhari has now reopened in Bangalore with an all new dining experience. KCK had opened up in Bangalore a couple years back, and quickly became the talk of the town and a clear favourite for honest and delicious Kerala food. Homely, flavourful, rustic – bringing the culinary gems of Kerala to Bangalore. KCK specializes in recipes & dishes from various parts of the state, capturing the spirit, flavours, and energy of Kerala and its people. So what’s new? KCK now offers a selection of nine unique, carefully crafted ‘Set Menus’ , a variety of ‘One Pot Meals’ and select ‘House Specials’ to add to your experience, as this award-winning restaurant Kappa Chakka Kandhari makes a comeback in Bangalore.
I call this KCK 2.0, and despite this new format, the focus stays the same. To showcase the state’s finest culinary offering. It’s all the favourites packed into different set menus. These are designed as a complete meal for one, with a variety that promises to suit every palate and budget. Each of the nine carefully crafted set menus is designed to be a well-balanced and complete meal with complementing flavours, comprising an extensive selection of appetisers, a relish to cleanse your palate, mains with accompanying staples, a choice of beverage and dessert and a glass of Sulaimani to round up the meal. In our view, this set menu is more in style of a degustation tasting menu, which works out favourably. Like diners who want to try more, but aren’t in big groups, or the uninitiated who aren’t really sure what pairs well and how much to order.
The set menus are grouped in relevant themes, so that each menu has a completely different experience to offer. So you have Malabar cuisine, kallu shaap cuisine from toddy shops, Syrian Christian and Travancore cuisines, can all be found in the newly curated set menus. Choose from ‘Nadan Memories’ comprising the best of food from a traditional Kerala home for the vegetarian diners; ‘Toddy Shop Memories’ for the toddy shops of Kerala offering the best of ‘touchings and signature dishes. Specialties mothers’ kitchens find expression in ‘Ammachi Specials’. While ‘Monsoon Magic’ offers dishes that carry fun innovations along with Kerala’s popular and hidden culinary treasures. For those with an appetite like a king – there is the feast of ‘Naduvazhi’.
And then there are the two we opted for Rajayogi and Jalarani, both feasts with the popular favourites like Koondal Roast, Mutton Coconut Fry, Karimeen Polichathu, Grilled Jumbo Prawns, Prawn Ularthiyathu, Appam, Ramassery Idli, the works.
If you think this is just way too much food, the ‘One Pot Meals’ are a less elaborate affair. Each of the twenty ‘One Pot Meals’ also includes a dessert and beverage. And there’s also a Kid’s menu, as well as a Catch of the Day specials. All of this ensure it’s the same amazing food that KCK has brought to Bangalore before, in a new avatar. And there’s more, if there’s another dish you’d like to add on to the set menu, that’s available at an additional Rs.100.
The Last Word
Historically, Bangalore hasn’t been too accustomed to set menus aside from quick corporate lunch offers. But with COVID-19, and the renewed focus on hygiene, limited contact dining, this kind of format works well. There’s no serving required and minimal staff movement around the table, because the starters and mains come in batches. And for me, the best thing is the tough part of deciding dishes and then pairing them, that’s already done by the experts. So now it’s just to head out, pick a set menu, then sit back and enjoy it. So check out Kappa Chakka Kandhari, make sure you get a reservation in prior, and don’t forget to eat the Cloud Pudding.
