Located inside EGL on Intermediate Ring Road, Hilton is a beautiful property with various restaurants hosted within. Ministry of Food, being one of those, and perhaps the premium selection has various interesting food festivals running, especially on Wednesdays, and I was invited to try their Backpacker’s feast – a global food buffet serving street fares from India to Turkey to Peru to Singapore and more! The restaurant itself is quite spread out, with private little sections for bigger groups. We were set up there, in a long table, and started off with wine and beer, as their Executive Chef of the time – Anirban Dasgupta showed us the expansive buffet with separate counters set up serving food of a certain region.
We began our tasting with the Indian offerings, and that was not just chats! Vada pavs, Paniyaram, Pani Puri, Pav Bhaji, Bhel were some of the assortments of Indian snack selections. Singapore had its share of crab masala – undoubtedly the most fantastic dish that evening, various steamed dim sums, corn and chicken satays, while there was also biriyani, laksa curry from Asian side. Representing Central and South America were churros, ceviche and tacos. And of course there was also Shawarmas from the Turkish and Lebanon region that was quite deliciously prepared in their live counters.
The best part about the spread is that it was embraced in its essence. It wasn’t just the starters that were street food, but also the main course had the street flavor imbibed, as well as various drinks and dessert that were inspired from the streets. There were ice cream stalls, fried fish counters, pork belly, paan selections, iced gola, sugargane juice, and SO much more. And that’s probably why this was definitely the best world street food that I have experienced in Bangalore.
Priced at Rs.1450 plus taxes for the buffet, and includes 2 pints of domestic beer, this is a spread worth experiencing. For more information on Ministry of Food, check out the details at http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/index.html
