Indiranagar has yet another nice and spacious hang out on 12th Main, and 612 East is a sprawling property with 3 levels of simple design with variations of ambience. We went on a Sunday evening, and the gorgeous roof top is the place to be. Away from the traffic noise, and high up to have a great, unhindered view. We came downstairs for our sit-down dinner and cocktails, but I do want to go back for a nice, quiet evening on the terrace.
Our meal started with some good appetizers, and they do have a pretty large menu to choose from. The Chicken Thigh and Twice Cooked Pork Belly were good to start with. For folks that like Indian food, the coriander and mint marinated chicken thigh with saffron yogurt was succulent and deliciously spicy. This came with a side of cucumber lebneh and salad. The pork was in hoisin sauce – slow cooked and braised getting it the perfect taste and texture. Next up was some of their very fun burgers – in colorful buns – classic, green, red, yellow and black! We had the Applewood Smoked Chicken Burger and Tennessee Burger. The beef burger was a classic, but it was the smoked chicken minced patty with Dijon mayo was a total winner, great consistency in the patty, nice and filling.
We also tried the Kurkuri Bhindi – like an Okra chaat on a bed of Papad. Packed a nice crunch. We did try a few of the pot pies, and I had a lot of expectation from those, didn’t pan out that well. Instead of being like a pie filled with curry, this came in a bowl half-filled like a soup and just covered with filo pastry. Even my favorite pork vindaloo couldn’t salvage this. The bacon wrapped chicken and dueling pizzas kinda made up for the disappointment though.
There’s a fabulous selection of cocktails at 612 East, complete with drama and the works. The pictures say it all. And a nice line up of desserts too. Moist Brownie with espresso – you can’t go wrong with this one. Definitely a favorite around the table, the fudgy brownie was just the right bit of gooey and the strong espresso mousse balanced this well. The fresh Cinnamon churros were quite nice and comforting too, though the Key Lime pie could have done with some more spunk. The Pink Praline with Banana Mousse was another winner, and a pretty one at that. Topped with banana mousse with flavors of cardamom, the crunchy sponge cake was a delight!
